Personal surfing in the workplace is a huge and growing problem. By one count, the average employee spends 2.5 hours a day. I surf internet at my work almost 3-4 hours a day.. 
Ok la tu, at least I spend more time at my desk and not running around town.
Actually this doesn’t keep me from doing my job, because I’m responsible when it comes to using it. It’s not my computer, so I am careful how I use it.
Study said this activity leads to serious loss of productivity and wasted bandwidth. Of course it is true. Furthermore any misuse of time in the workplace creates a problem for managers, especially as corporations are providing employees with a tool that can easily be misused. How this occur?
Look at this example.
An employee with a monthly salary of $3,000 costs the company about $20.70 per hour. If he spends 30 minutes accessing the Internet on non-work related websites each day, the wastage to the company is $10.40 per employee daily – or $217.50 a month. For a company with 200 employees, the wastage will amount to $43,500 a month or $522,000 a year, representing up to 6.25 per cent of the company’s annual wage costs.
My opinion, surfing the web shouldn’t be allowed at work. You are there to work not play. You get paid to work not surf the web. Anyway, make sure that your surfing activity does not interfere with your work commitments.
