Safety Alert : Robbery at sea onboard supply boat – Sabah
October 22nd, 2009 by eddyra on Oil & gasReceived thru email this morning…..
Would like to share this safety alert to all who are working in Sabah Waters to take extra precautionary measures and to remain vigilant.
Early this morning, one of our supply boat which is on route from Labuan to Erb West was robbed by a group of robbers.
They intruded the supply boat, armed with “Parangs” and a pistol. All the crew were bound and beaten-up. The robbers took their cash, handphones, satellite phone, watches and some other personal belongings. According to the Captain, there were eight (8) of them and they look like foreigners.
The boat communication equipments were deliberately damaged and the robbers threw away all the talkies into the sea to deny them external assistance.
This incident was reported to the Marine Police and Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency. The authorities have started their investigation and will launch an all-out effort to curb similar incident from repeating. Meantime, please be reminded to stay alert and always on the look out for any suspicious boats. Do notify the relevant operations and if required, report to the relevant authorities to seek their assistance.
Thanks & kind regards.
