For the past several months I have received many emails asking me what kind of steps are needed to take in becoming an oil and gas engineer. The average age that sends me these emails normally ranges anywhere from 20 years old to around 40 years old. Some of them are still studying.. 
How do I know? Yeap they attached their CV lah..
So let me tell you about it.
Aku tak tau lah apa yang you all fikir bila bercita-cita nak jadi seorang engineer in this industry. Duit banyak? Lasak? Challenging? Aweks-aweks pun ada yang berminat nak join this field, why not. My previous QC Engineer, a mom of 4 kids pun naik chopper ke offshore, tinggal laki dan anak-anak.. normally tak lah sampai 2-3 weeks, ada ler 2-3 hari jer.. but she managed to go there.
Actually dalam oil and gas industry, banyak positions available for engineers, and you can even find jobs where no previous experience is required. Tapi sebelum apply mana-mana job in the oil and gas you should take in consideration the compulsory requirements. Di link tersebut aku ada ceritakan serba sedikit requirement untuk bekerja di offshore, unless you all nak bekerja di onshore tak perlu click lah.
What engineering dicipline? Semua boleh asalkan you all ada degree in engineering, kalau takde pun science ke, IT ke, accounting ke.. semua boleh tetapi walau bagaimana pun bergantung kepada company yang nak recruit tu lah. Macam aku dulu Manufacturing System Engineering, takde pun bunyi dekat-dekat dengan mechanical engineering, atau petroleum engineering ke.. tapi terbabas jugak jadi oil and gas engineer cap ayam.. make sure you all ada degree, kalau tak dia orang anggap you all ni engineer haram.. samaada nak register dengan dia orang atau tak itu terpulang. Namun begitu, ada jugak yang tak abis degree dan ada diploma jer menjawat position engineer tapi perlu ingat, dia orang dapat sebab dia orang ada pengalaman yang lama… orait..

5. Hospital lab (ni mesti u x nak nyer kan. Keje dlm lab)

8. Futher studies (Postgraduate)
9. OLEO- or PETRO-CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES.
Job spec antaranya: R&D, Purchasing Order & HACCP, Product Specialist, Lecturer…etc
Salary amount:RM1500 above, ada yg dapat petrol allowance, car allowance etc.

Kalau nak sambung belajar, age of 24 still OK la dik.. pakcik dulu umur 27 baru abis belajar, itu pun belajar main-main sambil perabih duit MARA dan duit-duit income tax rakyat Malaysia.. main-main pun bole grad, kalau tak main-main dulu dapat CGPA 4.0 agaknya ..

kalo pakcik eddyra 27thn baru abis belajar, adik baru 24thn, akak nie anak dah 4 tapi masih belajar. Cuma skrg kene stop temporary dulu sbb ada a few personal prob yg kene di selesaikan. I ws with purchasing dulu ngan Chemical company. So, that is salah satu cara u can go up. Kalau tidak u have to compete dengan people yg dah ada years of experience in procurement.
Bukan senang nak senang dan bukan susah nak susah. Yang penting hati. Kalau nak semua boleh jadi. Sy sambung belajar part-time tapi x sempat nak continue untuk ambik Logistic and Chain management but my frend did. She’s at BASF Petronas and doing very well. Dah travel overseas dah skrg.

1) Which area u nak keje? Kemaman shj? atau willing nak keluar dari area kemaman. Kl? Ktn? atau any prefered area?
2) Ur expected gaji?
3) Keje skrg part-time atau permenant?

kalo pakcik eddyra 27thn baru abis belajar, adik baru 24thn, akak nie anak dah 4 tapi masih belajar. Cuma skrg kene stop temporary dulu sbb ada a few personal prob yg kene di selesaikan. I ws with purchasing dulu ngan Chemical company. So, that is salah satu cara u can go up. Kalau tidak u have to compete dengan people yg dah ada years of experience in procurement.

Saya adalah seorang penuntut di dalam bidang DIPLOMA OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEART di sebuah kolej di daerah Kemaman, Terengganu Darul Iman iaitu RANACO EDUCATION AND TRAINING INSTITUTE. Kelulusan bidang yang sedang saya pelajari ini telah mendapat pengiktirafan daripada (JABATAN KESELAMATAN DAN KESIHATAN PEKERJAAN MALAYSIA).
Setelah saya menamatkan pengajian saya di sini kelak saya akan secara automatik akan mendapat enam(6) sijil. Sijil tersebut ialah CONFINED SPACE ENTRY, PERMIT TO WORK, RINGGING & SLINGING, BASIC FIRE FIGHTING, INDUSTRIAL FIST AID/CPR, EMERGENCY RESPONSE PLAN. Saya telah mempunyai kelayakan di dalam bidang AUTHORIZED GAS TESTER(AGT) daripada pihak NIOSH setahun yang lepas dan kad saya akan tamat pada 10 Januari 2010.
Saya juga telah mempunyai KAD HIJAU daripada pihak CIDB MALAYSIA dan kad saya akan tamat pada 02 Oktober 2009. Selain itu saya telah mempunyai sijil kelayakan kursus PENGENALAN PERTOLONGAN CEMAS DAN CPR. Saya telah mempunyai pengalaman bekerja sebagai Safety Supervisor di Projek Lebuhraya Pantai Timur Fasa 2,Pakej 2 dan 3 selama enam(6) bulan.
Saya amat berminat untuk bekerja dekat offshore setelah saya menamatkan pengajian kelak.
Soalan saya:
1) Bagaimana sy nk apply untuk bekerja di offshore lepas sy tamat pengajian nanti..?
2) Dengan kelayakan yg telah sy sebutkan di atas,adakah sy layak untuk bekerja di offshore?

For sape2 yang minat untuk OnG, memang susah nak dapat kalau x de pengalaman.
Mostly company2 overseas memerlukan atleast 3 to 5 years experience in that field.
But, selalunyer its more better if kite masuk mane2 company OnG local to get experience first. Then baru bleh apply for company OnG from overseas. Ni yang my friend buat lah. B4 this die gain experience from PETRONAS and now die dah kat HESS company kat overseas. Bestkan..
