Poisonous Toothpaste
October 3rd, 2007 by eddyra on HealthTime to start checking food labels to see if it comes from China.
“Diethelyne gylcol is a central nervous system depressant. It’s a toxin that can be bad for liver or kidneys,” Illinois Attorney General, Lisa Madigan.
Diethylene glycol, a poisonous ingredient in some antifreeze, has been found in 6,000 tubes of toothpaste in Panama, and customs officials there said that the product appeared to have originated in China. Read here.
DEG is described by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) to contain a “low but meaningful risk of toxicity and injury,” although the ingredient can be especially harmful to those with kidney or liver disease. FDA is strongly warning consumers to avoid using any toothpaste labeled as made in China because they have found levels as high as 3-4% of a poisonous chemical, diethylene glycol (DEG), in Chinese toothpaste.
FDA has identified the following brands of toothpaste from China that contain DEG:
* Cooldent Fluoride
* Cooldent Spearmint
* Cooldent ICE
* Dr. Cool
* Everfresh Toothpaste
* Superdent Toothpaste
* Clean Rite Toothpaste
* Oralmax Extreme
* Oral Bright Fresh Spearmint Flavor
* Bright Max Peppermint Flavor
* ShiR Fresh Mint Fluoride Paste
* DentaPro
* DentaKleen
* DentaKleen Junior.
In Malaysia, Colgate toothpaste is certified Halal by Islamic Bodies recognized by JAKIM. Both the Ministry of Trade and Consumer Affairs and JAKIM have independently tested Colgate Toothpaste and confirmed that the products do not contain animal DNA or alcohol.
• The calcium in Colgate toothpaste is sourced from minerals.
• The glycerin in Colgate toothpaste is sourced from plants.
The question here did they find poisonous chemical, diethylene glycol in their tests? What about ‘Kayu Sugi’ brand which came from China?
