We’ve all seen the photo, depicting a vulture waiting for the death of a starving Sudanese girl crawling to a UN food centre. Most of us know that the photographer who took the picture won a Pulitzer Prize for it in 1994, and committed suicide three months later.

He was criticized for not helping the girl in the picture and said he did not know what happened to her.

Life as an engineer.. part 1

As we all know, shit rolls downhill. The following diagram illustrates exactly how this process takes place in a professional engineering company.

At the top of the hill is the Customer. Generally, the Customer, in one way or another, generates the shit.

The shit first reaches the VP. But the VP is very adept at smelling shit coming, and says, “I’m a VP, I don’t have to take this shit.” And so the shit rolls on by.

Now the shit reaches the Manager. It’s picking up some speed by now, and the Manager gets splashed. “Phew, this shit stinks,” says the Manager, “better pass it down.”

So the shit washes over the Project Leader, and he gets well dipped in shit. But by this time, the shit has a lot of momentum, and it keeps rolling down.

And so the shit lands on the Engineer. And the Engineer gets covered in it, and spends the entire project swimming in it.

Sales is shielded from the shit by the Crest of Ignorance, which keeps shit from rolling down on them, and ensures that the Engineer remains submerged.

Meanwhile, however, Sales discovers more shit as they proceed with the project. Not sure what to do with it, they conceal it in the Cave of Unreported Requirements.

After a while, the cave gets filled with shit, and it starts to ferment. Then the Engineer begins to smell hidden shit, and wonders “Dammit, now who’s been hiding shit?”

So, next time you’re the Engineer on a project, and you wonder why your life seems like shit, just refer to the diagram.

stonehenge

I went to Stonehenge (Salisbury, England) for the first time in June 1997. It rained a lot during our visit. Stonehenge is a truly ancient site, and I realized that where I was standing, someone else stood thousands of years ago.

An interview with Petronas..

Posted eddyra by on Story

A week before raya, Petronas HR called and asked me to come for structural and technical interview in JB on 26th October 2007. I said OK, confirm I’ll attend the interview. I don’t like interviewing for jobs. I dislike being interviewed but how come I can get the job without this process.

Actually it was a 2nd step in job interview with Petronas after I went for screening interview at Hyatt, Kuantan during their walk in interview and Open Day.

Early morning on October 26, I drove to JB from Kemaman, reached Persada Convention Center at 12.30pm. Great, I met one of the Petronas staff who used to be my client since 10 years ago, at least I got some tips and guides how the interview will be conducted. Well he still recogised me.

The structural interview started at 3.00pm and finished at 4.30pm. It went very well. At least I felt very confident that I did well. The interviewers name, En Idris and En Dzul were so nice, so it was easy to speak with them. OK lah tu, aku passed structural interview. Success!

So I would like to share with you, in case you readers in the coming future go for the structural interview with Petronas.
